I was 47 years old African American woman when I was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer. I was going in and out of the hospital for two years being treated for diverticulosis and due to this condition my cancer did not show up and since I wasn’t 50 yet back in 2007 I had never even thought about getting screened for this disease. I am not having my children screened early due to my diagnosis and they are 31,24,21. I say this to let you know you are never to young to get screened and please stay informed and don’t be afraid to ask questions to your health care provider.
